Packing slip checklist for small businesses
Create a shipment document that helps customers verify contents without exposing unnecessary pricing information.
A packing slip travels with a shipment and provides a practical inventory of what the package is supposed to contain.
Identify the shipment
Include the sender, recipient, order reference, shipment date and package reference when relevant.
This allows the document to be matched with the order even when the outer label is separated from the package.
List contents clearly
Show item descriptions, SKUs when useful and quantities packed. Prices are often omitted because the purpose is verification rather than billing.
For multi-box shipments, indicate package numbering or allocation when it reduces confusion.
Add useful handling information
Include backorder, partial shipment or handling notes only when they help the recipient understand the delivery.
Keep the format clean enough to scan quickly during receiving.
